This has got to be the most spectacular release that average website has come across so far. Huge Insect is the one of the two known Sachen titles that never saw the shelves (even in Taiwan.) One may ask, what's so special about an unreleased third-party game? My answer would be, "Nothing at all; it's Sachen for Allah's sake." Other people, like NES-God say, "I'm stupid." So, he asked me to paraphrase the epic journey of how Huge Insect came into his possession. "Well, it all goes back to the good old days. I forget exactly when, but let's say the year 2000. I met a fellow by the name of Buddha who invited me into #fefea. There I became acquainted with TheRedEye. He had been trying to contact Sachen for quite some time and was eventually responded to. They agreed to sell him some titles. The titles he was originally sold were 60-pin [Famicom] carts; which came with a catalog on the back listing Sachen's games: TC-1 through TC-30 [Thin Chen] and SA-1 through SA-24 [Sachen] with the exception of SA-22 [Huge Insect]. So, the legend was born. Anyways, we asked time after time to buy Huge Insect and Bridge [The other unreleased Sachen title], but were always greeted with bad news... 'NO PRODUCE'. At the end of 2002, Sachen shut down their website and was assumed dead. So, after a few months I decided to track down Sachen and try to buy some more games. When my package arrived, I was overwhelmed... I got Huge Insect AND they royally fucked-up my order. Bridge was replaced with Rockball and a bunch of other titles were mismatched. So, I expressed my concern and they told me, 'We'll look into the problem.' I was told that Bridge only existed in alpha and beta stages. I said that was no problem and I'd purchase 20 of the latest betas that they had. I was then told that they were all destroyed. Conflicting stories. For whatever reason, they won't sell it." Despite the disappointing ending, I think there is a moral to this story. Be persistent; you'll never know what you can obtain or accomplish. Huge Insect is a Galaga rip-off, in which you can obtain power-ups and extra lives.
The only thing that is really hard about the game is that the continue screen defaults the cursor on "NO". You are given an extra life after completing every level and there are infinite continues. The game consists of five different levels with six sub-levels each. At the sixth sub-level after completing a troupe of insects with four blobs blocking your shots; you face the a boss that shoots fire and produces more insects. Destroy the boss and the remaining insects to win. If you are able to maintain Double Shot, Super Speed, Shield, and Power Shot throughout the game; you should have no trouble beating it with one life. BIG thanks goes out to kevtris for dumping the cart and NES-God for discovering and providing the cart. |
