.....

OK...  I have tried and tried again to get far enough in this game to write a decent and/or extensive review.  Come on!  It's Bio Hazard/Resident Evil for the Famicom!  I was shocked when I downloaded this ROM from the original Chinese site and loaded the "jibberish"-named ROM into FCE Ultra.

"Woah... Resident Evil... for Nintendo... Umm, in Chinese.  Weird."

However, the game is almost too glitchy to play.  At points like; the cinematic character movement in the beginning, after obtaining the second typewriter tape, and after killing the second Zombie, there is an almost 50/50 chance of the game freezing and/or deleting your SRAM.  I hate to say it, but this is a common understanding about this company and most under-funded Chinese game development outfits.

ESC (or Waixing) is also known for stealing graphics from other games ("The Wizard of Oz" comes to mind.)   Although, most of these are original graphics as far as I can tell. ()  However, some scenes, such as the battle scene, have ripped sprites. The picture on the right is from Resident Evil Gaiden for GBC by Capcom and defunct-to-my-knowledge company m4.

S.T.A.R.S. vs. Infected

The only real redeeming quality about Bio Hazard is the how you battle.  Depending on how close the monster is, the range of attack widens.  A yellow bar goes left and right and when you attack with the bar centered within or directly on, it hurts the enemy.  Birds for instance, have a smaller range of attack.

I really don't know how to keep the game from freezing, but by the time I got to this point of writing the review I tried the game using PAL mode.  It seems that it keeps the freezing from happening so frequently.  Give it a shot.

THIS GAME IS...

Thanks go out to the TPU dumping group, whoever you are.  Thanks for keeping the Famicom spirit alive .
